PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACH

TO INCREASE THE CONCEPT UNDERSTANDING ABILITY

OF INTEGER ARITHMETIC OPERATIONS

ABSTRACT

This research is motivated by the low concept understanding ability of integer arithmetic operations in the 4^th A grade students of SDN 2 Cibodas. The goals of this research are to know the implementation, the students’ responses, and the increase of the concept understanding ability of integer arithmetic operations after Mathematics learning with Problem Solving Approach. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research with three cycles. The results of this research are: leraning implementation is condusive generally, students’ responses show the positive responses generally, and there is the increase of the concept understanding ability of integer arithmetic operations on each cycle in this research. The teachers are suggested to apply Problem Solving Approach to increase the concept understanding ability in integer arithmetic operations.
